About UE Local 666

In June 2021, the paralegals at Hudson Legal/HIPR united to launch the largest legal industry union drive in the history of the United States under the name “Hudson Workers United” (HWU) and successfully formed the country’s largest and only remote paralegals’ union with a 99% majority vote. In September 2023, HWU became officially chartered by the United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers of America as UE Local 666.

This was no easy feat. With many of Hudson’s employees being remote and scattered throughout the US, Hudson workers traveled across the country to picket Hudson’s offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. In the interim, they tirelessly coordinated collective actions in a remote workplace setting.

All the while, Hudson workers faced extensive and unprecedented union-busting tactics ranging from illegal surveillance, to virtual interrogation by members of management, to the creation of “hit sites” targeting specific organizers – labeling them “criminals” and political extremists among other invective. Hudson employees watched as their work was increasingly outsourced to contractors and new employees under companies with different names, and more and more union members were illegally fired and “laid off” by management while the union’s repeated demands for the company to negotiate a contract in good faith were ignored. At this time, Hudson is still fighting to repeal the outcome of the July 2022 union election and refuses to acknowledge UE Local 666 despite a complaint issued by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

To date, three frivolous lawsuits have been pressed against UE Local 666 organizers in retaliation for their protected union activity that the union continues to fight to this day alongside their pursuit of legal remedies through countless pending unfair labor practice (ULP) charges against Hudson.

Despite Hudson’s attempts to terminate its unionized workforce, attack the character of union organizers, and burden workers with tens of thousands of dollars in legal bills, UE Local 666 remains steadfast in its commitment to fight for justice for its members and hold Hudson accountable.
